SAYINGS AND PROVERBS

"The fear of YAHWEH (GOD) is the beginning of wisdom;
but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
--The Bible
"Trust in YAHWEH with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding."
--The Bible
"Be not wise in your own eyes: fear YAHWEH , and depart from evil. It shall be health to your body and marrow to your bones." -The Bible "My son, despise not the chastening of YAHWEH, neither be weary of His correction; for whom YAHWEH loves he corrects, even as a father the son in whom he delights."
-The Bible
"Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of your heart; so shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man."
-The Bible
"Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it; turn away from it and pass on. For they do not sleep unless they have done evil;and their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. "
-The Bible
"Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will love you."
-The Bible
"But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble."
-The Bible
"Honor your father by word and deed, that his blessing may come upon you. For a father's blessing strengthens the houses of chidren, but a mother's curse uproots their foundations.
Do not glorify yourself by dishonoring your father, for your father's dishonor is no glory to you. The glory of one's father is one's own glory, and it is a disgrace for children not to respect their mother."
-Sirach/Ecclesiasticus
"My child, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives; even if his mind fails, be patient with him; because you have all your faculties do not despise him. For kindness to a father will not be forgotten; ... in the day of your distress, it will be remembered in your favor... Whoever forsakes a father is like a blasphemer, and whoever angers a mother is cursed by Yahweh."
-Sirach/Ecclesiasticus

The book of Sirach, also known as Ecclesiaticus, was written in the III or II century before Christ.
It contains mostly wise advices, but it also has a few unwise ones, as well as internal and external
(in relation to the Bible/Christian teaching) contradictions--e.g. 33: 26, 28-31; 42: 5b, 14. As such,
it is not inspired by God, and it should be read with a grain of salt.
